ToggleWhat Can You Expect at the Berlin TV Tower?
A typical visit takes you to the observation deck inside the tower sphere. From here, you can look out across Berlin in every direction and use the information panels to identify landmarks around the city. The Sphere Bar is located on the same level. One floor above, the Sphere Tim Raue restaurant slowly revolves around the tower shaft during your visit.
The Berlin VR Experience is available as an additional option. It covers aspects of Berlin’s history and the construction of the TV Tower. The VR experience is not automatically included with every admission ticket.
Observation Deck with 360-Degree Views Across Berlin
The observation deck is located around 203 metres above ground. According to the operator, the lift takes around 35 seconds to travel from the entrance level to the tower sphere. At the top, you have uninterrupted 360-degree views across Berlin.
Easily recognisable landmarks include Alexanderplatz, the Red Town Hall, Berlin Cathedral, Museum Island, the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag. According to the operator, visibility can reach up to 80 kilometres in clear conditions. Clouds, haze and precipitation can considerably reduce the viewing distance.
The observation deck itself does not rotate. You can move freely between the different window sections and view Berlin from different directions. The operator confirms that the observation deck is stationary; only the restaurant revolves.
What Is the Best Time to Visit for the Views?
During the Day
In daylight, buildings, street layouts, parks and waterways are easiest to distinguish. A daytime visit is therefore particularly suitable if you want to get a geographical overview of Berlin.
At Dusk
During dusk, the appearance of the city changes within a relatively short period. The outlines of buildings remain visible while streets and squares gradually light up. Time slots around sunset are often in demand.
In the Evening
After dark, illuminated streets, squares and buildings dominate the view. Details at greater distances are less easy to make out than during daylight.
Sphere Bar on the Observation Level
The Sphere Bar is located on the same level as the observation deck. You do not need a separate bar ticket. Access is possible with a valid admission ticket, although it may depend on capacity and availability at the time of your visit.
The bar serves drinks and smaller dishes. Depending on your ticket, a drink or snack may already be included. With a regular admission ticket, any food and drinks you order are paid for separately.
You can combine a visit to the bar with your time on the observation deck. A standard admission ticket does not guarantee a seat or a particular table.
Revolving Sphere Tim Raue Restaurant at 207 Metres
The Sphere Tim Raue restaurant is located four metres above the observation deck. During your visit, the restaurant slowly revolves around the tower shaft, allowing the view across Berlin to change continuously without you having to leave your table. The operator places the restaurant at 207 metres above the city.
The culinary concept draws on dishes and ingredients from Berlin and Brandenburg, interpreted in Tim Raue’s style. Depending on the time of day and the ticket selected, options include breakfast, lunch and set menus.
To visit the restaurant, you need a dedicated restaurant ticket for a fixed time slot. Admission to the TV Tower and an automatic table reservation are included. Whether food and drinks are included in the price depends on the package selected.
You cannot reserve a particular table or window seat. Tables are assigned by the reservation system. After your restaurant visit, you can also access the observation level with your restaurant ticket.
Berlin VR Experience: Explore History Virtually
The Berlin VR Experience adds a virtual journey through time to the real-life views over the city. Depending on the film you choose, you can learn more about the development of Berlin or the planning and construction of the TV Tower.
Historical city views, animations and 360-degree footage are used as part of the experience. The VR programme is an additional activity inside the TV Tower and is included only with tickets that explicitly list it.
Availability and included services may vary depending on the ticket, date and provider. Before booking, check whether the selected offer includes both admission to the observation deck and the VR experience.

History and Architecture of the Berlin TV Tower
Plans for a television tower in Berlin date back to the early 1950s. After proposed locations in the Müggelberge hills and Volkspark Friedrichshain were abandoned, the decision was made in 1964 to construct the tower in central East Berlin.
The present TV Tower was built between 1965 and 1969. Its primary purpose was to transmit television and VHF radio programmes. At the same time, the highly visible tower formed part of the redevelopment of central East Berlin.
The TV Tower was inaugurated and put into technical operation on 3 October 1969. The observation deck and the former Telecafé opened to visitors on 7 October 1969. The tower continues to be used for the transmission of broadcasting and communications signals.
The tower sphere was assembled from prefabricated steel sections and installed on the concrete shaft at a height of around 200 metres. It contains technical floors as well as the publicly accessible observation deck and restaurant. The operator’s historical account confirms the early planning in the 1950s and the assembly of the sphere from steel sections at around 200 metres.
What to Expect During Your Visit
From your booked time slot to the lift ride, a visit follows a set sequence. Planning your ticket, journey and security check in advance helps you make use of the time available on the observation deck and for any additional activities you have booked.
1. Choose Your Ticket and Time Slot
Tickets are linked to a specific admission time. When booking, select the ticket type you want and an available time slot.
2. Arrive at the Entrance in Good Time
The entrance is on Panoramastraße, opposite Alexanderplatz S-Bahn station. Allow enough time for your journey to the tower.
3. Ticket Check and Security Check
Before going up the tower, tickets and any items you are carrying are checked. Even with an online ticket booked in advance, short waits may occur at the entrance or before the lift.
4. Take the Lift to the Tower Sphere
Regular visitor access to the observation deck is exclusively by lift. The staircase is reserved for emergencies and service personnel and cannot be used by visitors as a normal way up or down.
5. Enjoy the Views and Any Additional Activities You Have Booked
On the observation level, you can take in the panoramic views and visit the Sphere Bar. Access to the restaurant and VR Experience depends on the ticket you have booked.
Important Accessibility Information
Because of its structural design and safety requirements, the Berlin TV Tower is not fully accessible. According to the operator, wheelchair users and people who would be unable to move independently during an evacuation without assistance or mobility aids such as crutches cannot visit the tower.
If this may affect you, check the exact requirements on the operator’s official accessibility page before purchasing a ticket.
